Fabric absorbs differently from stone: there are no pores to fill, only fibres to coat. That is why textile products are applied by spray - evenly and without saturating the material.

Two products, two moments

  • A stain remover lifts a stain that is already there: grease, coffee, wine, ink.
  • A protector goes on clean, dry fabric; it limits the ingress of water and grease so the next soiling stays on the surface.

The order matters and is not reversible: a protector applied over a stain seals it into the fibre for good.

Vacuum the fabric before starting - dust bound in by the protector stays in it along with the film. Work in a ventilated room and let the material dry completely before use.

Questions before you choose

Will the protector change the colour or stiffness of the fabric?

Manufacturers state that the products change neither the colour nor the texture of the material. Fabric compositions and dyes are too varied to accept that without checking - hence the test on a seam underneath or a section hidden by a cushion.

Will the treatment survive washing?

Manufacturers' data sheets do not state resistance to washing, so we will not decide it. The test is how water behaves: if it soaks in instead of beading, the treatment needs repeating.

Is it suitable for an awning or a garden parasol?

Yes, if the product lists outdoor fabrics among its recommended substrates - you will find that in the technical data. The fabric has to be clean and completely dry.
