A fabric protector based on fluorinated resin, applied by spray. It limits the ingress of water and grease into the fibre - soiling stays on the surface instead of entering the material.
The manufacturer states that the product changes neither the colour nor the texture of the fabric. It goes on clean, dry material: treating dirty fabric fixes the soiling in place.
Typical uses are upholstery, carpets and rugs, and outdoor fabrics - awnings and parasols.
Fabrics differ in composition and dye more than building materials do, so the test is not a formality.
- Test on a seam underneath or on a section hidden by a cushion. You are checking not only the colour but whether the material stiffens.
- Vacuum the fabric first - dust bound in by the protector stays in it for good.
- Remove stains first, protect second. The other way round fixes the soiling in place.
- Work in a ventilated room and cover the floor and furniture around it.

Manufacturers state that the products change neither the colour nor the texture of the material. Fabric compositions and dyes are too varied to take that on trust, though - hence the test on an inconspicuous section before doing the whole thing.
- Will it work on an awning or a garden parasol?
Yes, if the product lists outdoor fabrics among its recommended substrates - you will find that under "Technical data". The fabric has to be clean and completely dry.
- How often should fabric be re-treated?
Washing and heavy use both wear the protection down. The sign is how the water behaves: while it beads on the surface, the treatment is working.
- Will the treatment survive washing?
The data sheet does not state resistance to washing, so we will not decide it here. After washing, check how the water behaves: if it soaks in instead of beading, the treatment needs repeating.
- Is it suitable for an awning?
The manufacturer states protection of fabrics against water and greases; awnings and parasols are a typical outdoor-fabric use. The material has to be clean and completely dry.
