Bitumen and asphalt remover GBR - Guard Industry
A product for removing bitumen, asphalt and tar residues from equipment, tools and vehicles used in road work. It dissolves dried-on deposits without dry scraping.
GBR is for one kind of soiling: bitumen, asphalt and tar. These come off differently from concrete - what is needed is a solvent, not an acid or an alkali.
Typical places of use are equipment and vehicles from road work: bodies, rails, tools, underbody parts. The product softens dried deposits so they do not have to be scraped off dry.
Equipment is cleaned differently from a surface: the deposit is thicker, and the substrate - metal, rubber, lacquer, seals - is often more sensitive than concrete.
- Check material compatibility in the technical data. Manufacturers state plainly what the product does not attack.
- Work on fresh or softened deposits. A product applied at the end of a shift works overnight and the deposit washes off in the morning.
- Do not let the product dry on the part being cleaned.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry metal parts before putting equipment away for any length of time.
Manufacturers describe the products in this category as not classified as corrosive, or as irritant only - which does not remove the need for gloves and eye protection.

- Can I use these products on block paving?
Do not assume so. They are formulated for metal and equipment, not for absorbent mineral substrates. For surfaces, use the products in "Cleaning and restoration".
- What is the difference between a preventive and a cleaning product?
When you use it. A preventive product goes on before the soiling, or right after work, so the deposit never bonds. A cleaning product dissolves a deposit that has already stuck. Some products do both - where that is the case, the technical data says so.
- Does the product need neutralising after rinsing?
It depends on the product. Where the manufacturer states that no neutralisation is needed, we have it in the technical data. Where there is no such statement, we do not assume one on the manufacturer's behalf.
- Will it work on an asphalt stain on block paving?
The product is formulated for equipment and tools, not for absorbent mineral substrates. On paving, the solvent can carry the bitumen into the concrete. For surfaces, use the products in "Cleaning and restoration" and test first.
