Facades and roofsVP-1 is a sealer for sandstone walls and facades. It limits the ingress of rainwater and the compounds dissolved in it without closing off water-vapour diffusion.
On a sandstone facade, water repellency does more than keep the wall clean: it limits the cycle of soaking and freezing, which is the main mechanism by which this stone fails in a Polish climate.
VP-1 is colourless, water-based and single-component. Apply it to saturation in one heavier coat of about 1 mm, then protect the surface from sun and rain for a minimum of 5 hours.
Stone forgives less than concrete. An acidic cleaner used on marble or travertine will etch the surface irreversibly, and excess sealer on a polish leaves a smear that can no longer be removed.
After sealing, polished stone usually stays out of use for 72 hours.
Before sealing the whole area, test on a patch hidden by a planter or in a corner of the patio. The same product can read differently on two batches of the same material, and on a surface with old coating left on it, it will not bond at all.
Not always. Marble is soft and sensitive to acids, granite is not, so the product has to match the type of stone. Before you buy, check that marble is on the list of recommended substrates.
With cleaning products of the right pH. For the polished-stone range that is usually pH 5-9 for the invisible versions, and a wider range for the wet-look ones. You will find the range for your product in its technical data.
It helps, though not in every case. It limits the ingress of water and the compounds dissolved in it, including those that discolour stone from below. It will not stop processes inside the stone itself, or rust from fixings.
Composition and finish. The -1 versions are single-component, based on siloxanes alone, and dry colourless. The -2 versions are multi-component - siloxanes with modified silanes - and give a lasting wet-look finish. Both meet PN-EN 1504-2 tab. 3 and both leave the pores open.
As much as the surface will take - the product is applied to saturation - so consumption depends entirely on how absorbent the material is. The simplest method: seal one square metre, measure what it took and multiply by your area, adding a margin.
After 5-6 hours. Until then, keep the freshly sealed surface out of the rain and direct sun.
Apply to full saturation in one generous coat; on absorbent material, repeat the application wet-on-wet.
