Facades and roofsEH-21 (Natural Protect) is based on an aqueous fluoropolymer dispersion - a different chemistry from the silane-siloxane sealers in the rest of the range. It is an excellent choice for natural stone: sandstone, granite, slate, marble and limestone.
The product is water and oil repellent, limits salt and alkaline efflorescence, and does not change the colour or appearance of the material. It contains no petroleum solvents.
It also works on stone facades, walls, gabion fencing, concrete, precast units, terracotta and terrazzo - vertical and horizontal. It can also be applied by dipping, which makes work on precast units easier.
Stone forgives less than concrete. An acidic cleaner used on marble or travertine will etch the surface irreversibly, and excess sealer on a polish leaves a smear that can no longer be removed.
After sealing, polished stone usually stays out of use for 72 hours.
Before sealing the whole area, test on a patch hidden by a planter or in a corner of the patio. The same product can read differently on two batches of the same material, and on a surface with old coating left on it, it will not bond at all.
Not always. Marble is soft and sensitive to acids, granite is not, so the product has to match the type of stone. Before you buy, check that marble is on the list of recommended substrates.
With cleaning products of the right pH. For the polished-stone range that is usually pH 5-9 for the invisible versions, and a wider range for the wet-look ones. You will find the range for your product in its technical data.
It helps, though not in every case. It limits the ingress of water and the compounds dissolved in it, including those that discolour stone from below. It will not stop processes inside the stone itself, or rust from fixings.
EH-21 is a fluoropolymer dispersion aimed at natural stone and facades, with dipping as an option. EH-20 has a wider range of uses and covers 4-12 m²/l. Both are water-based, colourless and water- and oil-repellent.
Consumption depends on how absorbent the surface is, so it is best checked in practice: seal one square metre, measure how much product it took and scale up to your whole area with a margin.
