The surface the manufacturer intends this preparation for.
EH-21 (Natural Protect) is based on an aqueous fluoropolymer dispersion - different chemistry from the silane-siloxane rest of the range. The manufacturer points to natural stone as the main use: sandstone, granite, slate, marble, limestone.
The product is water and oil repellent, limits salt and alkaline efflorescence, and does not change the colour or appearance of the material. The manufacturer stresses the absence of petroleum solvents.
Beyond stone it covers stone facades, walls, fencing, gabion walling, concrete, precast units, terracotta and terrazzo - vertical and horizontal. It may also be applied by dipping, which matters for precast production.
Stone forgives less than concrete. An acidic cleaner used on marble or travertine will etch the surface irreversibly, and excess sealer on a polish leaves a smear that can no longer be removed.
After sealing polished stone, manufacturers require the surface to stay out of use, usually for 72 hours. The exact figure is under "Technical data".
Before sealing the whole area, test on a patch hidden by a planter or in a corner of the patio. The same product can read differently on two batches of the same material, and on a surface with old coating left on it, it will not bond at all.
Chemistry and finish. The -1 versions are single-component, siloxane-based and dry colourless. The -2 versions also contain modified silanes and deepen the colour for a wet-stone effect. Protection against water is the job of the product in both cases; what separates them is the finish.
Do not assume so. Marble is soft and sensitive to acids, granite is not - the manufacturer states the stone in the product's intended use, and our categories follow that. Every product lists its recommended substrates in the technical data.
Manufacturers of the polished-stone range state a permitted pH range for cleaning products - usually pH 5-9 for the invisible versions and wider for the wet-look ones. The figure for each product is under "Technical data".
It limits the ingress of water and the compounds dissolved in it, including those that discolour stone from below. It will not stop processes inside the stone itself, or rust from fixings.
EH-21 is a fluoropolymer dispersion aimed at natural stone and facades, with dipping as an option. EH-20 is wider in use and has a stated coverage of 4-12 m²/l. Both are water-based, colourless and water- and oil-repellent.
The manufacturer's data sheet for EH-21 gives no coverage figure, so we do not quote one. When planning a purchase, start from a product of similar chemistry and test on a square metre.
