Penetrates deep into block paving, lowers its water uptake and limits efflorescence and green growth, while the colour of the surface stays unchanged. The water-based siloxane sealer leaves the pores open, so the paving keeps its vapour diffusion.
Block pavingHK-1 is the invisible version of the proven CTS sealer for block paving. Once dry the paving looks just as it did; what changes is how water behaves on it.
It is a single-component siloxane product, water-based and solvent-free. It lowers water uptake, making it harder for rainwater and the compounds dissolved in it - oils, juices, coffee - to enter. It leaves the pores open: gas and water-vapour diffusion are unchanged.
It is an excellent choice if you like the colour of your paving and want to keep it. If the paving has faded and you want to deepen the colour, go for HK-2.
The usual reason a sealing job fails is not the product but the substrate. A sealer will not bond to a surface with grease, lime efflorescence or an old coating on it.
New paving has to season first - usually around 28 days from the date the block was made. You will find the exact time for each product in its technical data.
Before sealing the whole area, test on a patch hidden by a planter or in a corner of the patio. The same product can read differently on two batches of the same material, and on a surface with old coating left on it, it will not bond at all.
Only if you want it to. An invisible product leaves the colour alone, a wet-look sealer deepens it permanently, and a colour sealer gives it a new shade.
By how the water behaves. While it still beads on the surface, the treatment is working. Once water starts soaking in and dark patches return after rain, the protection has worn out.
No. Water occupies the pores the product is meant to enter, and stays trapped under the film. The result is often a milky bloom that cannot be removed without stripping the coat. The exceptions are the few products that tolerate slight surface dampness.
Not if you choose a penetrating product - it forms no film on the surface and does not change its grip. If the surface is already slippery, choose an anti-slip treatment rather than a sealer.
Composition and finish. The -1 versions are single-component, based on siloxanes alone, and dry colourless. The -2 versions are multi-component - siloxanes with modified silanes - and give a lasting wet-look finish. Both meet PN-EN 1504-2 tab. 3 and both leave the pores open.
It depends on how absorbent the paving is, because the product is applied to saturation - so the simplest way to work it out is to seal one square metre, measure what it took, and multiply by your area with a small margin.
After 5-6 hours. Until then, protect the freshly sealed surface from rain and from direct sun.
Yes, HK-1 tolerates slight surface dampness - which is unusual in this class of product. Wet paving is a different thing from slightly damp, though; if in doubt, wait for it to dry.
Apply to full saturation in one generous coat; on absorbent material, repeat the application wet-on-wet.
