Facades and roofsProtectGuard is the opposite of the Wet Look range: it changes nothing in the appearance of the material. Once dry there is no sign the surface was treated - no film, no sheen, the colour and texture exactly as they were.
What sets it apart is the breadth of protection: alongside water and oils it also guards against graffiti - which matters on facades and walls in public places, because paint can be washed off before it enters porous brick.
Coverage is 6 m² per litre - lower than the Wet Look range, because the product is applied to saturation: one coat, or two wet-on-wet. On vertical surfaces work upwards.
The usual reason a sealing job fails is not the product but the substrate. A sealer will not bond to a surface with grease, lime efflorescence or an old coating on it.
New paving has to season first - usually around 28 days from the date the block was made. You will find the exact time for each product in its technical data.
Before sealing the whole area, test on a patch hidden by a planter or in a corner of the patio. The same product can read differently on two batches of the same material, and on a surface with old coating left on it, it will not bond at all.
Only if you want it to. An invisible product leaves the colour alone, a wet-look sealer deepens it permanently, and a colour sealer gives it a new shade.
By how the water behaves. While it still beads on the surface, the treatment is working. Once water starts soaking in and dark patches return after rain, the protection has worn out.
No. Water occupies the pores the product is meant to enter, and stays trapped under the film. The result is often a milky bloom that cannot be removed without stripping the coat. The exceptions are the few products that tolerate slight surface dampness.
Not if you choose a penetrating product - it forms no film on the surface and does not change its grip. If the surface is already slippery, choose an anti-slip treatment rather than a sealer.
No difference in appearance - the product is colourless and does not form a film. What you do see is how the water behaves: instead of soaking in, it beads.
No. The product is there to make it harder for paint to enter the porous material, so that it can be removed with a cleaner - it does not remove the paint itself. For that you need a separate anti-graffiti product.
In range. ProtectGuard also protects against oil, grease and graffiti and is suitable indoors. ImperGuard is water repellency for outdoor surfaces - facades, roofs, drives - with higher coverage and a lower cost per litre.
