Natural stoneThis is neither a sealer nor a wax. Guard Slip Resistant reacts with the silica already present in the stone or concrete and creates a micro-structure that improves grip - including when the floor is wet.
So there is no layer to wear away or peel off, and the appearance of the surface usually stays the same. Some shiny floors may dull slightly, so start with a test in an inconspicuous spot. Nor is there any roughening, so the floor does not collect dirt more than it did before.
It works after a single application, and its water-based formula does not cause corrosion - so it also suits sensitive stone, which traditional etching methods damage. It performs superbly on patios, drives, pool surrounds and kitchen floors.
The usual reason a sealing job fails is not the product but the substrate. A sealer will not bond to a surface with grease, lime efflorescence or an old coating on it.
New paving has to season first - usually around 28 days from the date the block was made. You will find the exact time for each product in its technical data.
Before sealing the whole area, test on a patch hidden by a planter or in a corner of the patio. The same product can read differently on two batches of the same material, and on a surface with old coating left on it, it will not bond at all.
Only if you want it to. An invisible product leaves the colour alone, a wet-look sealer deepens it permanently, and a colour sealer gives it a new shade.
By how the water behaves. While it still beads on the surface, the treatment is working. Once water starts soaking in and dark patches return after rain, the protection has worn out.
No. Water occupies the pores the product is meant to enter, and stays trapped under the film. The result is often a milky bloom that cannot be removed without stripping the coat. The exceptions are the few products that tolerate slight surface dampness.
Not if you choose a penetrating product - it forms no film on the surface and does not change its grip. If the surface is already slippery, choose an anti-slip treatment rather than a sealer.
By mechanism. Polish'Guard lays a wear layer on the surface - it has to be renewed, and diluted 1:9 it serves as a maintenance product. Guard Slip Resistant reacts with the material and lays nothing on it, so the appearance of the floor usually stays the same.
Those containing silica: stone and concrete, and also ceramics, terrazzo, tiles and enamel, including materials of low and very low porosity. On plastics and timber the mechanism does not apply. Do not use it on polished, crystallised or painted surfaces either, and test first on marble.
A single application is enough, and according to the manufacturer the effect is long-lasting. If over time the wet floor starts to feel slippery again, you can repeat the treatment.
